Pillion rider killed after being hit by lorry on Thirumangalam flyover in Chennai

A 56-year-old pillion rider was killed, and a 50-year-old motorist is battling for his life after a lorry hit their two-wheeler on the Thirumangalam flyover on Tuesday (August 19, 2025) night. The Anna Nagar Traffic Investigation Police are searching for the lorry driver who fled the scene after the collision.

A senior official of the City Traffic Police said Pandian and Koodalingam, residents of the Manali area, were proceeding in a two-wheeler, with Pandian riding the vehicle and Koodalingam seated pillion, towards Koyambedu on the Jawaharlal Nehru Salai on Tuesday night. A lorry hit them from behind on the Thirumangalam flyover.

Both Pandian and Koodalingam were thrown off the vehicle, and Koodalingam was killed on the spot. Pandian, who was seriously injured, was rescued by passersby and sent to Kilpauk Government Medical College Hospital for treament.

The Anna Nagar Traffic Investigation Police, on being alerted, sent Koodalingam’s body to the hospotal for post-mortem examination.

The traffic police have seized the lorry and are searching for the driver who allegedly caused the accident.
