The first phase of the Tamil Nadu government’s flagship outreach programme, Ungaludan Stalin, witnessed a good response in Tiruchi, with over 59,194 petitions submitted by residents over a one-month period, according to official sources.
Launched on July 15, the initiative aimed to provide a direct platform for the public to voice grievances, submit welfare requests, and seek redressal for long-pending issues. The first phase concluded on August 14, during which 120 camps were held across the Tiruchi district. As many as 3,97,236 households are said to benefit from the camps.
A total of 59,194 petitions were received from the camps conducted during the first phase. Of these, 19,395 petitions have been resolved so far. “The district is one of the top-performing in grievance disposal across the State. About 200 long-pending grievances pertaining to the revenue department have been resolved in a single day, which could usually take up to months to resolve,” said V. Saravanan, Tiruchi Collector.
Officials said that a majority pertained to the Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme, an income assistance programme offering ₹1,000 monthly to eligible women. Many women who were previously rejected or omitted from beneficiary lists used the camps to reapply or appeal.
All petitions are being digitally registered to ensure transparency and effective follow-up. Officials have urged the public to make the most of this opportunity to resolve long-standing grievances. Applications received at the camps will be processed within 45 days.
The camps bring together multiple government departments under one roof in each local body, aiming to address public petitions within 45 days of submission. In urban areas, 43 services are offered by 13 departments, while rural areas benefit from 46 services across 15 departments. These include essential services, welfare schemes, documentation assistance, and other services.
