Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a six-lane bridge over the Ganga in poll-bound Bihar during his visit to the State on Friday (August 22, 2025)

The 1.86-km-long Aunta-Simaria project will link Mokama in Patna district with Begusarai, thus linking north and south Bihar, and will provide an alternative to the over seven-decade-old Rajendra Setu, currently under repair.

Built at an estimated cost of ₹1,871 crore, the bridge is located on the vital National Highway-31 corridor that connects Bihar with Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. With Rajendra Setu undergoing maintenance work, heavy vehicles are forced to take a long detour, and the new bridge will save them up to 100 km in driving distance as well as prevent traffic jams in Patna and Muzaffarpur.
