The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has invited applications for two slots in the men’s senior selection committee, one in junior selection panel and four members in the women’s senior selection panel. The deadline for the eligible candidates to submit their applications is September 10.
The BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia invited applications on Friday (August 22, 2025). Each national selection panel comprises five members, conventionally from each of the five major zones. The BCCI has not specified about the selection committee members who will survive.
The Hindu understands that S. Sharath, the former Tamil Nadu stalwart, will make way for a new face after serving four years in succession in junior and selection committees combined. After the India Under-19’s triumphant campaign in the 2022 Under-19 World Cup, Sharath at the start of 2023 was elevated into the senior selection panel.
It is understood that either Subroto Banerjee, the former India pacer or Shiv Sunder Das, the former India opener will make way for a new face in the selection panel.
With Ajit Agarkar, who has emerged as a headstrong chief selector even since his appointment in July 2023, being assured of at least another year at the helm of affairs, the rejigged selection committee will continue to follow the roadmap towards the next year’s T20 World Cup and the 2027 ODI World Cup. Agarkar’s contract was renewed by the BCCI apex council earlier in the quarter.
The BCCI’s cricket advisory committee, with Ashok Malhotra as the chair and Sulakshana Naik and Jatin Paranjape as its members, is likely to interview shortlisted candidates before the BCCI annual general meeting ratifies the appointments at the end of September.
It will be interesting to see if the junior selection panel will have a change of chief selector ahead of the next year’s Under-19 World Cup.
While the women’s selection panel is set for a major revamp with a majority of its members, including chief selector Neetu David, having served the maximum permissible limit of five years. With the squad for the ODI World Cup having been selected earlier in the week, the women’s national selection panel can be reformulated at the start of the next tournament cycle.
