V.K. Sreekandan, Congress MP from Palakkad, has called for an investigation into the political backdrop of the scandalous allegations that led to Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil’s resignation as Youth Congress Kerala State president.

Addressing the media in Palakkad on Friday (August 22, 2025), Mr. Sreekandan questioned the “moral integrity” of the women who raised the allegations against Mr. Mamkootathil.

“It is clear that there is a political motive behind the allegations. These partially-clothed women have been seen in compromising positions with Ministers, and their behaviour and photos with them speak for themselves,” said Mr. Sreekandan.

He said that an investigation would lay bare “the forces driving the allegations.”

“The full story will soon emerge, and those behind (it) will be exposed,” he said.

Mr. Sreekandan said the MLA had become “a victim” of political vendetta. “There is no complaint against him. Soon after the allegations were raised, the party acted,” he said.

Mr. Sreekandan also downplayed the protests by the DYFI and the BJP, stating that these were based on unsubstantiated allegations.
