Man electrocuted when he stepped into stagnated rain water in Injambakkam

A 57-year-old man was electrocuted when he accidentally stepped into a puddle in which a snapped live wire had fallen after the rains lashed the city in the early morning of Friday in Injambakkam.

The victim has been identified as M Samuel, 57, of Injambakkam who was a construction worker.

Police sources said at 9:30 am, Samuel stepped into the stagnant water. During inquiry, it was found that a low tension cable snapped and fell just a few seconds before he stepped out. After he was electrocuted he collapsed , passersby alerted the staff of the electricity department and the supply to the area was cut off. Later he was rushed to a government hospital nearby where he was declared dead.

Upon receipt of the information, the police recovered the body and sent it to Government Royapettah Hospital for postmortem. A case was registered and an inquiry is under way.
