The first day of the monsoon session of the Haryana Legislative Assembly on Friday (August 22, 2025) was overshadowed by mayhem and multiple adjournments as Opposition Congress MLAs demanded an urgent discussion on the issue of the prevailing law and order situation in the State, even as Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini asserted the government was ready for the deliberation.

Soon after the obituary references, the Congress MLAs, led by former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, urged an adjournment motion to discuss the deteriorating law and order situation in the State against the backdrop of the death of a 19-year-old teacher under mysterious circumstances in Haryana’s Bhiwani a week ago.

Congress members entered the well of the House holding posters that questioned the effectiveness of the BJP’s flagship – “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” campaign. They were demanding an immediate discussion on law and order before taking up any other business in the House.

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said that the Government was willing to discuss and answer all the questions of the Opposition on the issue of the law and order situation. The Opposition members, however, were adamant that the adjournment motion be allowed first.

Mr. Saini criticised the Opposition, saying it should stop politicising the “Manisha” case. He said the Opposition is trying to mislead the public by creating unnecessary uproar. The police, he said, acted promptly and strict action has been taken against the culprits.

“There is a huge difference between the Congress regime and the present BJP government. Under Congress rule, the law and order situation was worse. Even FIRs were not even registered, forcing victims to run from pillar to post. In contrast, today swift and strict action is taken without delay,” he said.

Speaker Harvinder Kalyan adjourned the House multiple times to try to restore order and later convened an all-party meeting. Eventually, the Congress’s adjournment motion was accepted and the Speaker allowed a discussion on the issue on August 26, 2025.
