Guntur Municipal Corporation Commissioner Puli Srinivasulu has emphasized that nurturing plants is as important as planting them, as part of the Mission Green Guntur initiative. Speaking at an event held on Saturday (August 23) at Kavati Sankar Rao High School, he said nearly five lakh saplings will be planted across the city in a phased manner.

The programme was organized under the Swarnandhra – Swachhandhra initiative, which is generally held on the third Saturday of every month but was conducted on the fourth Saturday this time. The Commissioner said students who wish to plant saplings at their homes could inform their school headmasters, and the civic body would provide them. He urged students to adopt and take care of the saplings, highlighting that greenery not only improves the environment but also offers shade and enhances community well-being.

Awareness rallies, mass cleaning drives, fogging operations, toilet sanitation, and water quality checks are also being carried out across wards to ensure safe drinking water and mosquito control, he said.

The event was organized with the support of the Manavata voluntary organization. Corporator Vemula Jyothi Padmaja, and others participated.
