The Forest Department has urged those in possession of illegal weapons to surrender them by September 10.
In a release, the department has called upon the public in possession of country-made guns or weapons without licences to hand them over to the local notables or the authorities with the assurance that no action will be taken against them.
Such weapons shall be surrendered by September 10. The department has also proposed to carry out raids with the aid of trained sniffer dogs in remote hamlets fringing reserve forests to seize weapons that were not surrendered during this window of lenience.
