Thiruvananthapuram wins overall championship in transgender fest

Thiruvananthapuram district with 150 points bagged the overall championship at ‘Varnapakittu 2025’, the three-day State-level transgender arts festival that concluded in Kozhikode on Saturday. Ernakulam with 135 points and Malappuram with 124 points won the second and third positions respectively.

The competitions were held in three stages. There were 539 participants. Janaki Raj from Alappuzha won the ‘Kalaratnam’ title, while Devootti Shaji from Thrissur became the ‘Sarga Prathibha’.

Minister for Social Justice R. Bindu inaugurated the valedictory function and gave away prizes to the winners. Mayor Beena Philip presided.

In her address, the Minister called upon the transgender community to make the best use of various schemes offered by the State government for the community.

Social Justice department Special Secretary Adeela Abdulla, Director Arun S. Nair, actor Nadira Mehrin, State Transgender Justice Board members Laya Maria Jaison and Shyama S. Prabha, and Social Justice department Assistant Director Sheeba Mumtaz were present.
