Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said veteran communist leader and former CPI General Secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy as an irreparable loss to Telangana, and the Cabinet would discuss and take a decision to ensure that his name remains permanently etched in Telangana history.
The Chief Minister, who paid tributes to the departed leader at the Maqdoom Bhavan, CPI state office in Hyderabad, said, “Our government will recognise and honour the services of a leader who stood as an ideal for the people of Telangana.”
He recalled the government’s efforts to commemorate great Telangana leaders naming the Horticulture University after Konda Laxman Bapuji and the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project after S. Jaipal Reddy. Similar decision would be taken to give respect to Mr. Sudhakar Reddy.
The Chief Minister said the veteran Communist never deviated from his principles. “He led struggles without compromise and carried no trace of arrogance despite rising from the grassroots to become a Member of Parliament. He lived a principled life, uncompromising in his ideology and values until his last breath,” the Chief Minister observed.
He recalled that Sudhakar Reddy had once written to him suggesting that the Telugu University be named after Suravaram Pratap Reddy, the pioneering scholar and reformer. “We have already honoured that request by naming the Telugu University after him,” he added.
The Chief Minister said the government decided to conduct state honours for Sudhakar Reddy’s funeral in recognition of his lifelong service.
