It will be an extended celebration of sports this year, as the National Sports Day will stretch into a three day “Jan Andolan” (people’s movement) across the country.

Many States and Union Territories have issued orders to the concerned departments to initiate the preparations for National Sports Day.

As part of the call by the Union Sports Minister, Mansukh Mandaviya, every citizen will be encouraged to spend at least one hour on sports. Like the Fit India movement, this move is expected to turn into a revolution to trigger general good health across people of all walks of life and age.

On August 29, eminent athletes and public representatives will engage people in sports activities, as part of the motto Har gali, Har maidan, Khele saara Hindustan.

The National Sports Day celebrations will also seek to incorporate the Olympic values of excellence, friendship, respect and the Paralympic values of courage, determination, inspiration and equality.

On the second day, there will be sports debates, fitness talks and competitions in indigenous and other sports across the country.

The third day on August 31, will be dedicated to the Fit India, Sundays on Cycle drive, to further consolidate cycling as an integral part of every day life.

Top athletes like Abhinav Bindra, P.V. Sindhu, Mirabai Chanu, Manika Batra, Sunil Chhetri and Murali Sreeshankar have already got on to the task of spreading the message among the masses.
