The State government has announced an Onam bonus of ₹4,500 to government employees and teachers. The bonus has been increased by ₹500, Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal said on Monday.
Employees not entitled to the bonus will be eligible for ₹3,000 as special festival allowance, Mr. Balagopal said. Their allowance has been increased by ₹250 this year.
The special Onam allowance of service pensioners has been increased by ₹250 to ₹1,250. Pensioners under the contributory pension scheme also will be eligible for it.
Government employees will also be eligible for an Onam advance of ₹20,000. Part-time, contingent employees will be advanced ₹6,000.
According to Mr. Balagopal, around 13 lakh employees under different categories will benefit from Monday’s announcement. The government decided to increase the Onam benefits notwithstanding the financial constraints faced by the State on account of Central government policies, he added.
The festival allowance of contract-scheme workers has been increased by ₹250. All contract-scheme workers who received the allowance last year will be eligible for it with the increase this year also, Mr. Balagopal said.
