A history-sheeter was on Tuesday sentenced to life imprisonment and asked to pay a penalty of ₹5,000 in a murder case that took place under Orvakal police station limits in 2017.
According to police, the history-sheeter, Thota Shiva, was a resident of Nannur village. The deceased, Azam Khan Salaam Basha, who was an auto driver opposed Shiva’s high-handed behaviour in the village. On the night of November 11, 2017, Shiva attacked Basha with a knife at a hotel, resulting in his death. A case was registered based on a complaint by the brother of the deceased, Azam Khan Shali Basha.
After the trial, District Principal Judge G. Kabardi on Tuesday convicted and awarded life imprisonment to the history-sheeter. Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikrant Patil appreciated the police officers for gathering evidences during the investigation and conducting trial leading to the conviction of the accused.
