The Kerala unit of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Tuesday alleged that the Left front government had no moral right to organise the global Ayyappa summit at Sabarimala in September as it had always tried to undermine the ancient traditions of the temple.
The representatives of the organisation accused the government of trying to reap benefits ahead of the local body and Assembly elections by organising the conference.
Viji Thampi, State president of VHP, and S. J. R Kumar, national chairman of Sabarimala Ayappa Seva Samajam, blamed the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Devaswom Minister V. N Vasavan for inviting Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K Stalin and his son, who had called for eradicating Sanatana Dharma as chief guests at the summit. However, it is being heard that Mr. Stalin is not attending following opposition from the devotees, they claimed.
They alleged that the devotees will never forget the incident in which the Left front government had facilitated the entry of two women to offer prayers at the Sabarimala temple on January 2, 2019. The government has not yet withdrawn the cases registered against Ayyappa devotees who had protested against the violation of the rituals.
“We will go ahead with the legal recourse against the conduct of the summit,” they said.
