World record holder and Asian Games champion Sift Kaur Samra beat Yang Yujie of China by 0.4 point to cinch the gold, after topping qualification with 589, in the rifle 3-position event in the 16th Asian shooting championship in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, on Tuesday.

The Indian shooters continued their remarkable gold hunt, with eight gold medals on the day, apart from the silver and bronze.

Sift won the team gold also along with Ashi Chouksey and Anjum Moudgil.

The juniors were not to be left behind in the rifle 3-position event as Anushka Thoukur won the individual gold, and the team gold in the company of Mahit Sandhu and Prachi Gaikwad.

Anushka was particularly impressive as she beat Oh Sehee of Korea by five points for the gold, while Prachi had done well to top score in qualification with 588.

Sabeera Haris beat compatriot Addya Katyal 39-38 for the junior women’s trap gold, and the team took the gold, with Bhavya Tripathi pulling her weight by scoring 109.

Arya Vansh Tyagi lost the shoot-off for gold 0-1 to Nikita Moisseyev of Kazakhstan in junior men’s trap. The team gold was won by India with Arjun and Vinay Pratap Chandrawat lending support.

India also won the junior men’s rapid fire pistol team gold, while the young Sameer Gulia won the individual bronze.

India took its medals tally to the top with 39 gold, 14 silver and 17 bronze.
