A 44-year-old man from Andhra Pradesh was arrested by Vaniyambadi Town police in Tirupattur on Tuesday for stealing ₹5 lakh cash, which was kept in a two-wheeler two months ago.

Police said the arrested person was identified as V. Rathnakumar, a native of Andhra Pradesh. Initial inquiry revealed that the victim K. Subramani (59) a LIC agent, was constructing a new house in Vallipattu village near Vaniyambadi town for the past few months. Along with private building contractor S. Jayapaul (55), Subramani went to a local bank and withdrew ₹5 lakh cash in June. He kept the cash inside a steel box in the two-wheeler and the duo went to shop.

As they reached the construction site, the duo opened the steel box in the two-wheeler and found the cash was missing. A case was registered by Vaniyambadi Town police. Police analysed CCTV footage and mobile phone signals.

Police found that suspect Rathnakumar was following the duo at the time of the incident and nabbed him from his hideout in Chennai. Later, he was lodged in sub-jail in Tirupattur town. A probe is underway.
