Mysuru Grahakara Parishat to hold meeting on food safety and adulteration on August 30

Mysuru Grahakara Parishat (MGP) has organised a meeting to discuss the topic of food safety and adulteration in the city on August 30.

The meeting will be held at 6/1 Vivekananda Road in Yadavagiri here at 4 p.m.

“Since its inception, one of the topics on which MGP has relentlessly worked is to educate the public on how food we buy is adulterated, how to detect it and how the rampant use of pesticides is harming our health in the long run. The activists of the MGP have conducted hundreds of food adulteration demonstration both in schools and public areas,” the MGP said in a release here.

S.L. Ravindra, Designated Officer from FSSAI ( Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) will interact with the attendees on how the food items we buy are adulterated, and how they have been making efforts to prevent such practices by inspecting hotels and shops by analysing samples. He will also talk about how the public can help them in detecting the wrongdoers, the release added.

K.G. Srinivas, senior consultant and head of the department, Medical Oncology, Bharath Hospital, Mysuru, will speak on the necessary safety precautions in the wake of extensive use of pesticides. 

Ravichandra Bekal, a management consultant, who has worked in the FMCG sector earlier, will speak on the industry perspective on food safety and compliances.

The meeting gains significance in the wake of a large number of tourists visiting Mysuru to watch the ensuing Dasara festivities.
