The Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Hospital, one of the largest state-run multi-specialty and tertiary hospitals in north Telangana, has collaborated with the Helping Hand Foundation (HHF) to offer patient support services.

District Collector Satya Sharada Devi in the presence of MGM Hospital Superintendent K. Kishore Kumar and other staff members formally launched services here on Tuesday.

According to officials, the 1,500-bed hospital sees over 3,000 out-patients daily and reports 700-750 medical emergency cases daily. Patients from erstwhile Warangal, Karimnagar and Khammam visit MGM Hospital for medical services.

In view of this, HHF, which has been working on building patient support services through its Help Desk model with State-run hospitals in Hyderabad, has partnered with MGM Hospital to expand these services in association with the Basheer and Sarwar Babukhan Human Development Trust.

As part of this partnership, HHF has deployed seven trained community health workers (CHWs) at MGM Hospital. Three female CHWs will assist patients with OPD registration, mainly for ABHA ID (Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission), pharmacy assistance, navigational support and documentation for government schemes. Four male CHWs will provide mobility assistance to patients from the casualty to other departments.

Additionally, a dedicated helpline number will facilitate intra-district and hospital pathways for patients, particularly tribal patients, between MGMH and government tertiary hospitals in Hyderabad, where HHF runs help desk services, significantly improving patient trust and treatment outcomes.

“Patient support services in MGM will mean less confusion and more care, easier accessibility through guidance from the help desk will reduce stress, time and repetitive queries. In the long run, it will improve patient trust in public health,” said Mujtaba Hasan Askari of HHF.
