On the eve of Vinayaka Chavithi, Warangal’s micro-sculptor Ajay Kumar Mattewada unveiled a marvel — a tiny sculpture of a dancing Lord Ganesh on the tip of an eyelash. Famous for his ability to carve inside the eye of a needle, on strands of human hair and even on the head of a pin, Ajay’s latest creation once again highlights his extraordinary precision and artistry.

The sculpture of dancing Ganesh measures only 0.37 mm (370 microns) in height and is completely invisible to the naked eye, requiring a microscope to view. Ajay said he used soft wax, grains of sand, plastic powder, specially crafted micro tools and a caterpillar hair as a brush for painting. The artwork took 120 hours, spread over two months, to complete.

Ajay, a goldsmith by profession, is known for sculpting with rare materials such as gold, ivory, matchsticks, handmade wax, plastic and nylon particles.

Ajay’s micro art has been admired by several national and international dignitaries, including former Prime Ministers P. V. Narasimha Rao and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, as well as current PM Narendra Modi. He has achieved five world and national records in the Limca Book of Records and received international and national awards. Recently, his works were showcased at World Art Dubai 2024.
