The Madipakkam Police arrested three suspects for conducting a series of robberies by waylaying victims.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Ajith alias Munusamy, 26, of Pozhichalur, Ashok, 25, of Chemmenchery and Sathyapriyan, 21, of Madipakkam. The police began investigation following a complaint from Stephenraj, 40, who runs a scrap yard in Ramamurthy Nagar. The complainant alleged on Sunday night that while he was closing the shop, three unidentified persons came and waylaid him. They assaulted him and robbed ₹3500 at knifepoint .
The trio also struck at a woman and robbed a gold chain a week ago in Madipakkam and robbed a mobile phone from another woman. Last week, they had stolen a two -wheeler parked on the roadside in Ram Nagar. Police recovered two bikes and mobile phones from them.
The suspect Ajith has five criminal cases for thefts and Ashok has 17 criminal cases for murder, attempt to murder and theft.
