7 held for bid to murder

The Vanagaram Police arrested seven persons including a transwoman for hiring a gang to kill a man who refused to marry her.

Police said one Ajith, 30 from Sivagangai district has been staying in Maduravoyal and working in a transport firm as manager in Vanagaram. He was having a close relationship with Rita, a transperson for the last seven years. Last Wednesday night, he visited Rita at her house in Gandhi Nagar, Porur. While he was returning home on his bike, three persons who came on a two-wheeler stopped him on Service Road near Porur Toll Plaza. The trio assaulted him besides abusing him and left the place. Again, two others came in another bike and stabbed him using a knife before fleeing. He was admitted at a hospital for treatment to injury. Based on Ajith’s complaint, Vanagaram Police registered a case for attempting to murder him.

Investigation revealed that Rita was involved in the offence as Ajith was planning to marry another woman.

After coming to know about the proposed marriage, Rita quarreled with him demanding to marry her. As he refused, Rita hired the gang, police said.
