Resource recovery facility inaugurated at Marine Drive

The resource recovery facility (RRF) set up under the Kochi Corporation on the land owned by the Greater Cochin Development Authority in Marine Drive started functioning on Tuesday (August 26).

The project, aimed at implementing a proper solution to the processing of non-biodegradable waste, was set up through the joint funding by Orkla India and Green Worms, according to a release.

M.B. Rajesh, Minister for Local Self-Government, inaugurated the facility. K. Chandran Pillai, chairman of the Greater Cochin Development Authority, presided. Mayor M. Anilkumar delivered the keynote address.

The facility was set up using discarded containers. It was the sixth resource recovery facility set up under the Kochi Corporation limits in association with the government. The facility can manage about 5 tonnes of waste daily and 1,200 metric tonnes annually, according to the release.
