A total of 1,465 electric poles and 387 distribution transformers in the limits of Southern and Northern power distribution companies were damaged in the incessant rains across the State since Tuesday, and the field staff of the two utilities are engaged in replacing/repairing the damaged installations.

During a teleconference held on Thursday with Chief Engineers and Superintending Engineers, he reviewed the restoration work and the power supply situation.

Officials reported that Medak district suffered significant damage due to floods as water entered several substations. The flood waters affected affecting 11 – 33 kV feeders, 175 – 11 kV feeders, 262 distribution transformers and 971 electric poles. Hundreds of kilometers of power lines/conductors were also damaged.

Despite heavy rains and a festival day, the entire utility staff worked tirelessly and in Medak district, where power supply was disrupted to 15 villages due to heavy floods, the staff worked round-the-clock and restored supply to 10 villages by Wednesday night. However, due to damaged roads and ongoing continued rain, supply could not be restored to the remaining villages by night. On Thursday, the staff waded into a river in Rajipet village to repair a feeder and successfully restored the supply.
