
A close one: Malaysia’s Ghazali lifted just 1kg more than Dilbag.

Malaysia’s Mohamad Shyahmi Bin Nor Ghazali edged out home favourite Dilbag Singh by 1kg to win the men’s 94kg gold medal in the Commonwealth weightlifting championships at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, Naranpura, on Friday.
Dilbag lifted 153kg to take a 3kg lead over Ghazali in snatch. But the Malaysian sensationally fought back to lift 193kg in his second clean and jerk attempt against the Indian’s 189kg.
Parv Chaudhary bagged both men’s 94kg youth and junior crowns with a total of 337kg (snatch 149kg, clean and jerk 188kg) with a junior (clean and jerk) and three youth records.
Sairaj Pardeshi scripted three Commonwealth records as he aggregated an impressive 348kg (157kg, 191kg) to emerge the 88kg junior champion. Pardeshi’s total was 1kg more than that of Braydon Kennedy, who secured the senior title.
Shah Hussain (267kg) claimed the 88kg youth crown.

Alex Bellemarre (Can) 152kg, 184kg, 336kg; 94kg: 1. Mohamad Shyahmi Bin Nor Ghazali (Mas) 150kg, 193kg, 343kg; 2. Dilbag Singh 153kg, 189kg, 342kg; 3. Oliver Saxton (Aus) 150kg, 186kg, 336kg.
Women: 1. Eileen Cikamatana (Aus) 110kg, 145kg, 255kg; 2. Litia Nacagilevu (Nzl) 107kg, 128kg, 235kg; 3. Vanshita Verma 95kg, 127kg, 222kg.
