Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed Education Department officials to make facial recognition mandatory for students and teachers in all educational institutions, schools, colleges, universities and institutions offering professional courses.
Deployment of facial recognition systems would enhance the quality of education and help in addressing shortcomings, if any, in the system, he said at a meeting with senior officials to review the functioning of the department here on Friday.
He pointed out that the present system of entrusting infrastructure development in educational institutions such as construction of additional classrooms, kitchens, boundary walls, and toilets, to different departments, was not effective. Steps should be taken to ensure that sanction of funds, supervision of infrastructure development works, quality control and other aspects, should be brought under a single department to ensure accountability.
In this context, he wanted the Education, Women and Infrastructure Development Corporation overseeing the construction of the Young India Integrated Residential Schools to be entrusted with the responsibility of supervising infrastructure works in all the educational institutions.
He wanted officials to see that payment of bills for the mid-day meal scheme was done through the green channel. Construction of toilets and boundary walls in colleges and schools run exclusively for women/girls should be speeded up, while priority should be accorded to container kitchens as power demands of the respective institutions could be met by installing solar panels on them.
Priority to sports
The Chief Minister wanted priority to be given to sports in all the educational institutions, and officials could explore the option of appointing physical education teachers on a contract basis if need be. He wanted steps to be taken to release pending bills pertaining to sanitation works in model schools set up under Amma Aadarsa Pathasalas scheme, as well as the appointment of women counsellors in residential schools for girls.
He recalled that Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka requested Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to ensure that loans secured for the development of education were not brought under the purview of the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Act.
To prove the government’s claim, the officials concerned should prepare a comprehensive report incorporating the details of those who studied in the government institutions over the past ten years, he said.
