United Democratic Front (UDF) convener Adoor Prakash, MP, has claimed that there is no substance in the allegations of sexual misconduct levelled against Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil.

He told the media here on Saturday (August 30, 2025) that there had been no complaints against him so far. “If there are cases, they will be fought in courts…. We have seen many such allegations against politicians ahead of Assembly elections. Even respected leaders such as former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had to face them. I hope you would not have forgotten the agitations against Chandy,” Mr. Prakash said.

Asked why the Congress took action against Mr. Mamkootathil if there was no substance in the allegations, he said the party had just asked him to step aside for a while. Mr. Prakash also said that there was nothing wrong in Mr. Mamkootathil attending the Assembly session. “There are many others on the treasury benches in the House who are facing similar allegations. Why no one is discussing it? If they have the right to attend the Assembly session, Mr. Mamkootathil too have similar rights. It is not fair to single out one person, a youth leader, and demand that he be kept aside,” he said.

Asked about the CPI(M)‘s demand that Mr. Mamkootathil quit from his post, Mr. Prakash said that the Congress party had removed him from the post of Youth Congress State president, and it was capable of taking follow-up steps. The CPI(M) need not think too much about it, he added.
