The Motor Vehicles department (MVD) has initiated action against the alleged traffic rule violations during the recent Onam celebrations by students of Ilahia College of Engineering, Muvattupuzha.

The department has suspended the licence of the driver who reportedly drove a rented KSRTC bus recklessly during the celebrations. He has also been ordered to undergo training at the Institute of Driving Training and Research, officials said on Saturday (August 30, 2025).

The investigation was ordered by the Ernakulam Regional Transport Officer (Enforcement) after receiving multiple complaints citing alleged traffic rule violations during the revelry. Videos of the incident showed students riding the bus by protruding head and hands out of the windows and standing on the footboard of the moving vehicle. There was also footage of students driving private cars recklessly.

“The MVD has asked the car owners to produce before officials those who drove the vehicles during the celebrations. Action will be taken against the violators as and when they turn up before investigators,” an official release said.
