Two dead as car ploughs into Ganesh idol procession in Paderu

Two persons died and seven others sustained grievous injuries after a speeding car ploughed into a Ganesh idol procession near Chinthalaveedhi, around four km from Paderu Town in Alluri Sitharama Raju district, on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as K. Sitha Ram (60) and G. Kondababu (50) from Paderu mandal.

According to sources, around 50 people were in the procession and performing the traditional ‘Dhimsa’ dance when the vehicle, coming from Araku and heading towards Paderu, crashed into the crowd.

Ther Paderu police rushed to the spot and pacified the angry crowd who were trying to destroy the vehicle. The injured were rushed to the government hospital in Paderu for treatment.

Locals told the police that the driver of the vehicle was in inebriated condition.
