A constable of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) returned a bag containing 50 sovereigns of jewellery, which was left behind by a couple at Coimbatore railway station on Saturday night (August 30, 2025).
According to RPF, S. Ravikumar, 53, of Podanur near Coimbatore, his wife and daughter reached Coimbatore railway station on West Coast Super Fast Express at 9.45 p.m. on Saturday, after attending a relative’s marriage in Chennai. They got down on platform number 1A with luggage.
While in a rush to the entrance for a taxi, the family left a handbag on a stone bench on the platform. RPF constable K. Manikandan noticed the unclaimed bag during his routine rounds around 10.15 p.m. He brought the bag to the RPF office on the same platform and informed station duty officer K. Madhanraj. It contained 50 sovereigns of jewellery, ₹11,000, and a smartphone worth ₹25,000.
Meanwhile, a relative made a call to the mobile phone at 10.30 p.m. to check whether the family reached their residence in Coimbatore. The RPF personnel attended the call and informed the relative that the mobile phone was found in a bag left unattended.
After being alerted by the relatives, Mr. Ravikumar and his wife reached the RPF station at 11.15 p.m. They checked the valuables in the bag and confirmed that nothing was missing. RPF returned the valuables to the family after due verification. The family thanked Mr. Manikandan and the RPF.
