Four persons, including two women, died and five others sustained grievous injuries when a private travels bus rammed into a trolley at Katavaram village in Addakal on the Bengaluru National Highway in the early hours of Monday (September 1, 2025).
The deceased were identified as bus cleaner Hasan (35), Ashrafunnisa (70), Yellamma (40) of Kamalapuram in Proddatur, and Subba Raidu, aged between 55-60, who succumbed later while undergoing treatment.
Mahabubnagar Superintendent of Police D. Janaki said the accident took place around 2 a.m. when both the vehicles were travelling in the same direction. “A 20-tyre trolley carrying iron rods was moving ahead when the BCVR Travels bus, on its way from Hyderabad to Proddatur, attempted to overtake and crashed into it,” said the officer.
Yellamma, a daily wage labourer, had lost her husband last year. Her son Santosh, who is pursuing his studies while staying in a hostel, was also travelling on the bus. “With her death, he has now lost both his parents,” said the SP. The Mahabubnagar police reached the spot soon after the incident and shifted the injured to Government General Hospital.
