Laos, on Monday (September 1, 2025), was accepted as a dialogue partner of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) at the SCO summit conducted in the Chinese city of Tianjin.

After the joining of the country the SCO grouping now includes 10 members, 15 dialogue partners and two observers.
The SCO summit kicked off on Sunday (August 31, 2025) in the northern port city of Tianjin, days before a massive military parade in the capital Beijing to mark 80 years since the end of World War II.
This year’s summit was stated to be the largest of the SCO group as China, which holds the Presidency of the organisation this year, has invited 20 foreign leaders and 10 heads of international organisations, including UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to attend the SCO Plus summit.
On Monday (September 1, 2025), the leaders address the meeting enunciating their future vision for the organisation.
Prime Minister Modi, on the third day of his China trip, attended the SCO summit on Monday (September 1, 2025). He met the Russian President Vladimir Putin, conveying to him the message that it is humanity’s call to end the Ukraine conflict as soon as possible.
