Labourer killed, another injured in mud collapse in Bengaluru’s Yelahanka

A construction labourer was killed and another injured when a heap of mud collapsed on them while digging a basement for a house in Yelahanka.

The incident occurred on Monday evening at the site of a multi-storied building.

According to the police, the deceased hailed from Andhra Pradesh and had come to the city to work at the construction site.

Another labourer was stuck in the mud but was rescued by co-workers and passers-by. He was shifted a hospital, and was said to be in a critical condition. The identity of the victims was to be ascertained.

Moments before the accident, the labourers were digging to lay foundation for the building. Owing to the rain, the pit filled up and the mud collapsed, officials said. The other labourers managed to escape.

The Yelahanka police have registered a case of death against the building owner, site engineer, and contractor for negligence and rash and negligent act endangering safety.
