A low pressure area has formed over northwest Bay of Bengal at 5.30 a.m. on Tuesday (September 2, 2025), the Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai has said.
It is likely to become more marked over the same region during next 24 hours. Thereafter, it is very likely to move west-northwestwards across Odisha during the subsequent 24 hours.
The low pressure area has formed under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Myanmar coast.
Meanwhile, in the 24-hour period ending 8.30 a.m. Tuesday (September 2, 2025), Namakkal recorded 5 cm of rain, Devala in The Nilgiris registered 4 cm; Upper Gudalur, Glenmorgan, Gudalur Bazar, Namakkal, Wood Braiyar Estate, Harisan Malayalam Ltd, Mudukulatur in Ramanathapuram district, Erode and Nannilam in Thiruvarur district recorded 3 cm each.
Vint Worth Estate, Barwood, Avalanche, Taluk Office Pandalur and Naduvattam in The Nilgiris; Anaimaduvu Dam in Salem, Perambalur and Perambalur AWS , Suthamalli Dam in Ariyalur district, Rayakottah and KRP Dam in Krishnagiri district; Thiruvidaimaruthur in Thanjavur district, and Perundurai recorded 2 cm each.
