Burglars stole jewellery and cash from a retired Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) driver’s home in Salem on Tuesday (September 2, 2025).
According to the police, M. Venkatachalam (64), is a resident of Mettupatti Thathanur near Karipatti. On Monday (September 1, 2025), he and his family went to their relative’s house in Tiruchi district. On Tuesday morning when they returned home, they found the front door lock broken and 50-sovereign jewellery and ₹50,000 cash stolen from the almirah.
On information, the police came to the spot and forensic experts lifted fingerprints from the house. A sniffer dog was also brought to the spot. The police registered a case and are verifying CCTV footages in the locality.
Likewise, M.S. Mani (37), a resident of Judge Road in Kannankurichi, opened a cloth shop on Five Roads last week. On Tuesday morning, when workers came to the shop, they found the office room broken and ₹6.85 lakh cash from the counter missing. When they verified the CCTV, they found that around 2 a.m., a person entered the shop through the roof and stole the money. The Alagapuram police registered a case and are on the lookout for the culprit.
