27 villages declared ‘sensitive’ in Faridabad as Yamuna water rises

The Faridabad administration on Tuesday declared 27 villages along the Yamuna “sensitive” amid rising water levels in the river. 
Residents of a few villages have already shifted to safer locations identified by the authorities after floodwaters entered their homes.

Deputy Commissioner Vikram Singh visited the affected villages to assess the situation and appealed to residents to move to the safe homes set up by the administration. These shelters have been equipped with accommodation, food, medicines, and first aid facilities.

He also cautioned that the water level could rise further at night and urged people to remain vigilant. About a dozen villages, including Basantpur, Kidawali, Lalpur, Mahavatpur, Rajpur Kalan, and Tilori Khadar, have been categorised as the “most sensitive”. Special teams have been deployed for round-the-clock monitoring in these areas.

Flood-like situation

Heavy rain over the past 24 hours has filled several Aravalli check dams beyond capacity. Some of them collapsed, triggering a flood-like situation in the lower areas of Kadarpur village in Gurugram.

SDM Sanjeev Singla visited the site on Tuesday and took stock of the situation with officials. Mr. Singla directed the irrigation department to divert the rainwater flowing from the Aravalli hills into residential areas and ordered that relief work be expedited in the affected zones.
