The first trailer for Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights has been released, offering a provocative reimagining of Emily Brontë’s classic 1847 novel. Starring Margot Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff, the film leans into sensual imagery and heightened melodrama.

The trailer juxtaposes traditional shots of the Yorkshire moors with strikingly intimate visuals: hands kneading bread, shirtless glimpses of Elordi in a stable, bodices tightened and ripped open, and Robbie’s Catherine and Elordi’s Heathcliff sharing near-erotic gestures. The imagery underscores the film’s emphasis on physical desire alongside Brontë’s enduring themes of obsession, betrayal, and class.

Fennell, who wrote, directed and produced the project, reunites with Robbie following their collaborations on Promising Young Woman and Saltburn. Robbie also produces through her company LuckyChap, which backed both earlier projects. Warner Bros. Motion Pictures Group will release the film worldwide after winning distribution rights in a competitive bidding war.

The casting of Elordi as Heathcliff has reignited debate. In Brontë’s text, the character is described as dark-skinned and marked by outsider status, with much of his mistreatment rooted in race and class. Critics have expressed concern that casting a white actor risks erasing those dynamics. Fennell has also faced scrutiny for her provocative approach, with some questioning whether her style is suited to Brontë’s darker Gothic vision.

Despite controversy, anticipation is high for the film, which arrives in theaters on February 13, 2026, timed for Valentine’s Day audiences. The daring new interpretation of one of English literature’s most turbulent love stories looks to be one of next year’s most talked-about literary adaptations.
