The Udupi police have arrested six persons on charges of involving in two separate cases of online trading fraud.
The Udupi Cyber Economic and Narcotic Crime (CEN) police arrested four persons in connection with the case registered by a resident of Kapu, who had lost ₹75 lakh.
The police gave names of the arrested persons as Mohammed Kais, 20, of Kodikere in Surathkal; Ahmed Anvis, 20, of Hejamady in Kapu taluk; Safwan, 30, and Tasir, 31, both of B. Mooda village in Bantwal taluk. The police have seized ₹4 lakh from the four accused.
The Kapu resident in her complaint said a woman whom she got acquainted on Facebook sent her through WhatsApp the link of FXCM Gold Trading by stating that investment in it will yield good returns. She transferred a total of ₹75 lakh in the period between April 9 and May 12. Having failed to get any return, she filed the complaint.
Another fraud
The CEN police have arrested Sohaib Ahamed, 28, and Muddasir Ahamed, both from Hunasur in Mysuru district. The police recovered ₹2 lakh and a mobile phone from the accused.
The two were arrested in connection with the complaint by a resident from Udupi town. The complainant said he joined Fidility Institutional Partners F – 101 group on Telegram and transferred a total of ₹44 lakh to different accounts in the period between December 19, 2024 and January 7, 2025. He also did not get any return and he filed compliant with CEN police station.
The police said the arrested persons were all second-line people who had given their accounts for use in the racket in exchange for commission of 5%. The police have found the main accused in the investment fraud cases to be a resident of Hassan district, who is presently in prison in Bengaluru in connection with case registered in Sampegehalli police station. He will be shortly taken to custody for inquiry in cases registered in Udupi.
The Udupi police were also on a look out for a person from Mangaluru, who is suspected to be involved in the racket.
