A man, earlier arrested for sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl, was sentenced to undergo life imprisonment by a local court on Wednesday, September 3. The court slapped a fine of ₹60,000 on the accused, while the victim was awarded ₹5 lakh as compensation.
The accused, identified as Abhiram Das, 38, a labourer, a native of Bhadrak district Odisha and resident of Ahmedguda in Medchal-Malkajgiri district was arrested by the Jawaharnagar police in 2021 under the charges of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The case was reported on July 4, 2021 when the victim, a four-year-old girl, had gone to a nearby shop from her house in Venkateshwara Nagar Colony in Dammaiguda. The accused abducted her and subjected her to sexual assault. Following a complaint by the victim’s father, police registered a case of kidnapping which was later expanded to include rape and POCSO charges based on the victim’s statement and investigation findings.
On Wednesday, the court pronounced the judgment, awarding life imprisonment to Das and imposing a fine of ₹60,000. The court also directed the payment of ₹5 lakh as compensation to the victim.
