Four express trains, including two Madurai-bound Vande Bharat Express trains were delayed, for up to one hour after the intermediate block signal (IBS) failed at Samudram between Kolathur and Manaparai railway stations on Thursday night.

According to railway sources, the locopilot of Train No. 22101 Mumbai Lokmanya Tilak-Madurai weekly superfast express noticed that the IBS had failed.

When he tried to contact the Station Master of Kolathur railway station, the singal post telephone of the railway department was out of order.

With no instructions obtained from the Station Master, the locopilot resumed the journey at stipulated restricted speed of 8 kmph.

With the train taking prolonged time to reach Manaparai railway station, Chennai Egmore-Tirunelveli Vande Bharat Express got held up at Kolathur railway station for more than one hour. Similarly, Chennai-Egmore-Madurai Vaigai express and Bengaluru-Madurai Vande Bharat were also detained in the section.
