The Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal and the Mahadayi Water Disputes Tribunal are at different stages of hearing, said N. Ashok Babu, Director, National Water Mission, Ministry of Jal Shakti. He noted that the Krishna dispute involves Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh, while the Mahadayi dispute involves Karnataka and Goa.

Delivering the keynote address at the FKCCI India CSR and Sustainability Awards ceremony on September 4, Mr. Babu stated that the awards in the Godavari, Krishna, and Kaveri water disputes, where Karnataka is a party, have been finalised.

He highlighted that the Jal Shakti Abhiyan has led to a rise of 11.36 billion cubic metres in water tables. Over two crore conservation projects, 142 crore afforestation activities, and 639 district water conservation plans have been completed, with Jal Shakti Kendras functioning in 712 districts.

The Central Ground Water Resources Assessment Report 2024 recorded 102 over-exploited districts, he added.

FKCCI President M.G. Balakrishna lauded the Ministry’s initiatives and reiterated FKCCI’s century-long role in supporting Karnataka’s industrial, trade and community development.
