Mumbai Police have launched an investigation after they received threat messages on their WhatsApp number on Thursday (September 4, 2025), claiming that Mumbai will be blown up, officials told The Hindu

“We will blow up Mumbai,” the message said. Other messages used foul language against the Mumbai Police. We have registered a case, and are investigating the matter,” an official told The Hindu.

“Precautions are being taken. But preliminary investigation has revealed that it was a hoax call,” a top official of the Mumbai Police told The Hindu

Meanwhile police officials denied media reports that an organisation had claimed the responsibility of the threat messages.

Mumbai is celebrating the 10-day Ganesh festival, and police are making security arrangements for lakhs who will throng the city’s streets on the final day, on Saturday (September 6).
