The immersion procession of 69-ft tall Khairtabad Ganesh idol in Hyderabad was completed on Saturday (September 6, 2025) as per schedule at 1.04 p.m. The elaborate security arrangements by police with reconnaissance efforts to check hurdles both on the ground and sky paid off as the procession took about five hours to navigate the mostly business and office areas of central Hyderabad. To put the size of the idol in perspective, the granite Buddha statue in the middle of the Hussainsagar lake is 58-ft tall.

There was a brief tangle of wiring just when the procession moved from the installation site at 7.44 a.m. in Khairatabad. Police officials and volunteers perched on top of the idol moved the cables away clearing the path. Devotees started trooping in to have a glimpse of the idol by 6 a.m. in Khairatabad with many of them traveling from farthest areas of the city using Metro to reach the venue.

“We travelled from Nagole as our boy wanted to have a darshan of the Ganesh idol. It is now easy to reach here without any hassle of parking,” said Prasad Rao who came with his family at 7 a.m. Other devotees reached the Lakdikapul Metro that is closer to the procession route near Telephone Bhavan.

In the final stretch of the procession near the Necklace Road, where a special crane was readied for immersion of the idol, there was a surge of devotees who jumped barricades and raced each other to capture images and to offer their prayers.

The barricades kept the devotees in one lane while the gigantic idol was transported in the lane closer to the lake for immersion. The giant crane gently moved the idol from the vehicle and lowered it into the brown waters of the Hussain Sagar Lake at 1.21 p.m.
