The 171st birth anniversary of social reformer Brahmashree Narayana Guru will be celebrated on a grand scale in a meaningful manner in Kalaburagi city on September 16.
Pranavanand Swami of Narayana Guru Shakti Peeth of Kardal village in Chittapur taluk of Kalaburagi district addressing press persons here on Saturday said that around 18 personalities would be honoured with “Brahmashree Narayana Guru Award” for their contributions to different fields including social work, education, health, agriculture, literature, art, music, theatre, and sports.
Pranavanand Swami said that the birth anniversary of Sree Narayana Guru this year would also mark the centenary celebrations of the historic meeting of Mahatma Gandhi with Sree Narayana Guru at the Sivagiri Mutt in Kerala back in 1925.
The Jayanthotsava of Sree Narayana Guru is jointly celebrated by the District Administration, City Corporation, District unit of Arya Ediga Samaj and Brahmashree Narayana Guru Samskritika Kala Sangha, and Jayanthotsava Samiti.
Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Priyank Kharge would inaugurate the Jayanthotsava celebrations. Senior Congress leader B.K. Hariprasad and Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivas Poojary would be the chief guests on the occasion.
Former Minister Malikayya Guteadar and former legislator Subhash Guttedar would flag off the Shoba yatre.
Minister for Medical Education Sharan Prakash Patil would inaugurate the free medical multidisciplinary camp organised by Jeevaa Super Speciality hospital on the occasion.
