The Lokayukta police on Saturday arrested Nafissa, president of Peruvai Gram Panchayat in Bantwal taluk, William, bill collector, on charges of bribery.
They allegedly received ₹10,000 as bribe for sanctioning borewell for an agricultural land.
The complainant said he went to the panchayat office to enquire about the application of his uncle for sanctioning a borewell under the tribal sub plan. Nafissa reportedly told the complainant that he should pay ₹10,000 to her to take the file to Bengaluru and get the approval done.
Based on the complaint, the Lokayukta police registered a case against Nafissa. On Saturday, the police caught bill collector William, while receiving ₹10,000 on the directions of Nafissa.
The police arrested Nafissa and William for offences under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. They were produced before the jurisdictional court and remanded in judicial custody, the police said.
