The Salem Shevapet Maligai and Shop Varthaga Nala Sangam said that the prices of essential commodities have reduced in Salem compared with last year.
The association president, S.C. Natarajan, told reporters after the annual meeting of the Association on Sunday that some people claim that prices of essential commodities and grocery items have skyrocketed in Tamil Nadu. But the truth is most of the grocery items are coming from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and other States to Tamil Nadu. Neither the State government nor the Tamil Nadu traders are responsible for the price trends of these products.
“We have submitted the price list of grocery items in the meeting compared with December 2024, and most of the items’ prices have dropped. The reason for this is most of the north Indian States received rain at the correct time and cultivation has increased,” Mr. Natarajan added.
The Association has urged the Union government to monitor and take action against the people concerned for hiking the maximum retail price, and the larger companies that sell at a lower price.
