The Pazhayangadi police in Kannur have registered a case against around 30 people, including Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Kannur north district president K.K. Vinod Kumar, in connection with a protest held at Madayipara on Sunday evening (September 7, 2025).
The case was registered under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for obstructing public transport on the Madayipara road and raising provocative slogans allegedly intended to create social unrest. The protest was organised under the leadership of the Madayi mandala committee of the BJP.
Inaugurating the protest, Mr. Vinod Kumar had alleged that attempts were being made by fundamentalist forces to create riots. [The Girls’ Islamic Organisation had organised a pro-Palestinian protest at Madayipara on Saturday.] He said trespassing on the sacred land of the Madayipara Devaswom and raising pro-Palestinian and anti-Indian slogans was condemnable, warning that people would resist if such incidents were repeated.
The BJP leader demanded that the Regional Transport Officer hold an investigation into the use of a bus of a school run by Jamaat-e-Islami for the event organised by the Girls’ Islamic Organisation (GIO) and called for a probe into the role of Arfa Shihab, a GIO leader from Malappuram.
The BJP protest was attended by State committee member C. Narayanan, Kozhikode regional secretary Balakrishnan Panakil, district vice-president A.V. Sanal, and mandala president Sujith. The police said a case had been registered against all those present at the protest and further investigation was under way.
