A 26-year-old autorickshaw driver was allegedly murdered by his friend following a row over a girl, at Byappanahalli police station limits on Sunday (September 7, 2025).

The deceased Ismail Patvegar, a native of Vijayapura, was found dead on the railway track at Doddanekkundi in Mahadevapura. The police initially took up a case of unnatural death. However, a probe revealed that Ismail was living in a paying guest accommodation sharing the room with his friend, Pratap, from Chitradurga.

The duo were working as autorickshaw drivers. Ismail allegedly used to talk to Pratap’s female friend over the phone frequently. Enraged, Pratap had warned him to stay away and the duo used to fight over this issue regularly. Ismail had allegedly decided to kill Pratap and on the day of the incident, he took him near the Doddanekkundi railway track for a party.

The duo had a couple of drinks and as per the plan, Ismail started an argument and tried to push Pratap when a train was passing by. However, Pratap escaped and instead pushed Ismail, who came under the train and was run over. Pratap later called the police and concocted a story that Ismail came under the moving train while trying to record a reel. But based on a suspicion, the police questioned Pratap in detail which allegedly led him to confess to the crime.

Based on the confession, the police have registered a case of murder against Pratap and remanded him to judicial custody.
