Requesting an early bus service to Kalayanur village in the evening, students and parents from the place staged a protest outside the Collectorate here on Monday.
About 30 students along with their parents staged protest and said 30 of them from their village attend schools in Ramanathapuram.
Additionally, 15 girl students from nearby villages like Venkulam, Peruvayal, Poothondi, and Nariyanendal also study at institutions like Ramanathapuram Municipal Girls Higher Secondary School and the Government Women’s College.
The only bus available for them to return home after school is at 7 p.m. from Ramanathapuram.
“If the bus starts at 7 p.m. we wil reach houses only at 9 p.m. As most part of a day goes in waiting for bus and travelling, when would we study and do other works,” the protesters noted.
Though they had previously submitted multiple petitions to the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation officials, requesting a bus service at 5 p.m. from Ramanathapuram, no actions were taken.
Collector Simranjeet Singh Kahlon assured them that he would take action to change the bus timings.
