INDIA bloc leaders on Monday held a march to Raj Nivas to protest against the National Democratic Alliance governments at Centre and in Puducherry for the attempts being made to privatise electricity distribution network in the Union Territory.

The protest march, which began from Raja Theatre signal, was stopped by the police at Nehru Street-Mission Street junction before the leaders could proceed towards Raj Nivas. As they were blocked near the junction, the protestors raised slogans against the BJP and the All India N. R. Congress government.

After a few minutes of sloganeering, the leaders courted arrest and were later released. Leaders belonging to the Congress, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi and Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) were present.

Those who participated in the agitation included former Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy, Opposition leader R. Siva, Congress Legislature Party leader M. Vaithianathan, former Ministers R. Kamalakannan and S. P. Sivakumar.
